Opened in 1971, Jester Park Golf Course has been renowned as one of the best government owned golf course in the State of Iowa. Set against the Saylorville Lake, the golf course features a rolling topography with large greens and narrow, tree lined fairways.
The golf course is owned by Polk County Conservation and managed by Green Golf Partners. In 2009 Green Golf’s principal partner, Tom Rodems, brought Mike in to discuss plans for updating Jester Park. Seeing that the quality of the bunkers was the main issue, a bunker plan was completed in 2009.
The plan included the rebuilding of existing bunker, spotting new, strategically located bunkers, and eliminating existing bunkers to improve maintenance and playability. Following input from the golf pro and superintendent, work began with the first phase in 2009 with bunkers completed on hole nos. 4, 7, and 10. In 2010 work continued with additional bunker work, drainage, and tee construction on hole nos. 2, 3, 4, 5, 12, 13, and 14. The work for 2011 included completing the remaining bunkers and tee construction on hole nos. 8, 9, 15, and 18.
